Day 45

I did poorly on my water today.  Under half again.  Ugh.  Must get it up again!
Keeping away from the sweets, and I did exercise!  I am so tired.  Going to sleep right now...

Day 44

This wasn't my best day.  I drank  under half my water.  I tried to work out but only got about 15 minutes in before Charlie turned the Xbox off, and I was running out of time to get out the door anyway, so I just called it quits.  Then tonight I went into Ann's room where she and a friend were having a sleep over.  They were munching on those every flavor jelly beans, and without thinking about it at all, I ate 3 of them when they offered them to me.  Then suddenly my hands flew to my mouth and I said, "oh!  That's sugar!" Oooops!  Completely spaced it there.  that's okay, 3 jelly beans won't kill me.  And I'm not going to let that break my determination to stay away from sweets still.
One good thing that happened today ... Harrison told me, "hey!  You look skinny!". Oh how I love that boy.  :)

Day 36

I drank about 1/2 my water, I exercised, and stayed away from sweets.  The next area to work hard on:  limiting my carbs!!!

Sunday, August 3, 2014

Day 35

Only a little water today, as explained in my last post.  I fasted for most of the day, so I didn't have much at all of anything.  Tomorrow is Monday though!  Woohoo!  (I know it's silly, but Mondays always make me think of new beginnings, fresh starts.)

I had some juice today, but boy, was it filled with sugar!  Wow!  Way too sweet!  So glad to be staying away from that stuff.  For some crazy reason, it still isn't difficult to say no to sweets, and I still don't know why.  It has been exactly 1 month.  Huh.  Whatever the reason, I'm glad!

Gonna get up and exercise in the morning, and get started on my water early.  I really want to get back to drinking the full amount.  It always feel good when I do!

Day 34

Half my water.  I really need to step it up.  I've been saying this for about a week now.  Tomorrow won't be any better, unfortunately.  It's Fast Sunday.  So I will be fasting until dinner time.  Monday, however, is always a good day for a fresh start!  :)

I am still doing great on staying away from sweets though, and I'm getting some exercise every other day or so.  I need to make that EVERY day.  I do stay active, and especially this week I've been doing a lot of moving furniture around and organizing, putting up blinds, etc., so I've been unusually busy.  I love it, actually.
Well, that's it for now.

Day 33

I got in a little less than half my water.  :(

Friday, August 1, 2014

Day 32

Half my water.  All else is good.  Staying busy, exercising, and eating more fruits and veggies!  Yay!

Day 31

Drank around half my water again.  Still working to be better about that, but half is good, so I can't complain too much.  Doing good with no sweets still, and trying to get more fruits and veggies in (rather than the carbs I've been eating too much of).
I exercised today, and that felt good.  Gotta do that every day.
Now, it's off to sleep I go...

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

Day 30

Half my water again.  :)

Day 29

Half my water.  All else is good!  I weighed myself again and I am down 1.5 lb.!  Baby steps...

Monday, July 28, 2014

Day 28

I got about half my water again.  This seems to be my new normal.  Really, I'm quite happy with it, though I will continue to aim for more, especially since aiming for more is what gets me at least half way.

Karl made donuts twice in the last two days, and although it's been a little tempting to Sig in, I have remained faithful.  I know myself too well.  If I allow myself even just a little bite, it will then open the door for more, and I won't be able to help myself.  So I am going to continue to just say no completely.  It seems to be the only way I can do this.

We had church today, so my personal rule is no exercise on Sundays.  (Day of rest, right?). I am excited to get back into it tomorrow though!

Regarding my diet, I still need to eat fewer carbs and more fruits and vegetables.  My goal for that is to have 3 whole grains and 6 fruits and vegetables a day.  I may have to work up to that though.

Nite!

Saturday, July 26, 2014

Day 27

Half my water.  I didn't exercise exactly, but I did plenty of walking, so that's good enough I think.  And once again, no sweets.  (I'm really quite surprised at how easy the no sugar thing is for me this time.  What's so different?  No idea.)

Day 26

I think I got around half my water again.  I also exercised.  And avoided sweets.  Yay me!  :)

Friday, July 25, 2014

Day 25

I got 1/2 my water.  Not too bad, could be better.

We went to a potluck dinner and there were tons of desserts.  The cookies were somewhat tempting, and if I had started in on them I would have eaten a whole dozen or more.  But I stayed strong!  Yay!  Someone had brought a sugar free cake with sugar free icing though, and I had two slices.  So yummy!  I didn't feel bad at all.  :)

I exercised too!  I am loving the Wii Fit Plus cycling.  Gets me sweating, and I can feel it's a real work out on my legs/hips.  I am also doing the arm extension to tone up my upper arms.  They've become a little flabby in recent years, and I am self-conscious about them if I wear shirts with super short sleeves.

Over all, I am feeling really good about these changes I'm making.  It's not just a physical transformation that I am aiming for, but a mental one too.  I am proving to myself that I have will power, that my mind is stronger than my body.  And that's a good thing.  A very good thing.

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

Day 24

Golly, today was not any better than yesterday.  I think I did even worse than yesterday on water!  Gotta find a way out of this rut!

I am happy that my no-sugar effort is still going strong!

I think all of my trouble areas would be helped if I started getting to bed earlier.  I don't know if that's a realistic thing to try and change though.  I've pretty much always been a night owl, so other than an occasional early night, I will probably continue to be a night owl.

The kids and I watched the movie "What about Bob?"  today.  Very funny!  But one good thing that I took away from it was that ... baby steps can lead to big change.  So, perhaps a small step I can make towards going to bed early is getting in pajamas and brushing teeth early - like 8/9pm.  Too often I find that I put those things off, and for really no good reason.  But I do have a hard time going to bed without those being done.  So for now, I will work on those 2 baby steps.  :)  Good night!

Tuesday, July 22, 2014

Day 23

I did terribly on my water today.  Had less than half!  Still going strong with no sweets though.  :)

I didn't exercise because we slept in a little and had to get out the door early.  We were gone pretty much all day, and I was exhausted when we got home, so the busyness of the day will have to count for my exercise.  That's okay, right?

I am feeling pretty good over all.  A little sore today from my work out yesterday, especially the Kung Fu on Wii Fit.  That'll get better, though, as I continue the work outs.

Tomorrow needs to be better in all areas.  Good night!

Monday, July 21, 2014

Day 22

I drank a little more than half my water today.  Not bad, but still need to be better.  Staying away from sweets has been surprisingly easy.  I made my sugar free chocolates again, so I enjoyed some of those today.  Mmmm!

I started Wii Fit today!  I finally got around to weighing myself, and was disappointed in where I am, but hey, in a year's time, that should be significantly lower.  I hope.  I did the Wii Fit Plus cycling, which is a surprisingly good work out.  Last time I did it I remember losing some weight and really feeling it when I put my leather coat on.  I hope to be able to wear that leather coat comfortably again this winter.  Gonna need to lose a few inches in the hips!  That is my biggest trouble spot!

Day 21

Drank around 1/2 again.  Gotta get back to getting all my water in every day!  Excited to start exercising tomorrow though...

Sunday, July 20, 2014

Day 20

I think I drank around 1/2 my water today.  Still no sweets!  On Monday I will start exercising - gonna aim for Wii Fit cycling first thing in the mornings.  I've done that in the past with pretty good results.

Saturday, July 19, 2014

Day 19

3/4 of my water.  No sweets.  Doing a little better at eating fruits and veggies for snacks.

Thursday, July 17, 2014

Day 18

Well, I got around 3/4 of my water.  Not bad!  Still staying strong on having no sweets, though I did get the craving today for spice drops (one of my favorite candies).  I am determined to stay away though!  Go me!  :)

Wednesday, July 16, 2014

Day 17

Got half my water.  No sweets.  Gonna try for a better day tomorrow (water wise).  Also gonna start exercising tomorrow.  :)

Day 16

Yay!  I did it!  Got all my water in!  AND we were gone for half the day... how do you like that?!  :)

I have been staying off of sugar like a pro as well, and staying "fairly" busy, but I am not feeling like I'm getting any thinner.  Is it too early to tell?  Maybe I just had a "bloating" day.  Or maybe I'm coming up on "that time of the month" (not that that has ever been an issue for me).  I don't know, just feeling chubby today.  Especially in my arms and belly and legs.  Ugh.

I think I know part of the cause though.  First, I haven't been really exercising - I mean TRULY exercising.  I was hoping that just staying busy throughout the day, and staying off my tush was enough, but I think I was wrong about that.  Second, I have been replacing my sweets with carbs and fat.  Cheese, bread, cereal, peanut butter, etc.  My new plan is to load up on more fruits and vegetables when I'm hungry, and add some kind of exercise routine into my day.  I'm not yet sure what I'll do, but I'll do something.  I like the cycling game on Wii Fit Plus, and I like taking walks, and I like the 7-minute work-out.  What I need to do is take the early morning minutes (I'm usually the first awake, though I tend to lay in bed browsing facebook -- waste of time!!) to plan out my day, and include a little exercise first thing.

MUST GET MORE ORGANIZED WITH MY TIME.  That is all.  :)

Monday, July 14, 2014

Day 15

I did a little better today, drank a little over half my water.  That's progress!  Still staying strong with no sweets, even though there were chocolate chip cookies in the house too.  I felt the first little temptation as the others were devouring them, but I stayed strong!  :)  As for exercise, I did a little yard work, but that's about it.  I really should add some kind of exercise routine to my day, but I feel like this is as much as I can handle at the moment.
Well, here's to an even better day tomorrow!

Sunday, July 13, 2014

Day 14

The bad news:  this is probably my worst day since starting the water challenge.  I only had a few glasses of water!  Yikes!
The good news:  it's only uphill from here!  So tomorrow is Monday, and Mondays always give me a fresh perspective on my goals.  Here's looking to a better week than last!

Saturday, July 12, 2014

Day 13

Not so good today.  Definitely less than half my water, maybe even close to a quarter.  Ugh.  I can feel the difference, too, because I'm feeling a little more sluggish.  I guess I'm learning how important water is in our diet!  The really sad thing is, before all this, I doubt I even got a quarter of my water in on a daily basis.  I was really bad!
Still going strong with no sugar!  :)

Day 12

Well, I got half again.  Grrrr... why can't I get past that?  I will keep trying.  I am proud that I have stayed sugar free though!  And staying active!  And really, half my weight in ounces of water ain't bad, so I can't feel too awful.  I think the ticket is to aim high and then I will still get a good amount, even if I miss the mark.  What's that saying ... "Shoot for the moon, because even if you miss, you'll land among the starts."  I like that!  :)

It's been nearly 2 weeks since I started this challenge, and I can feel the slightest shrinking in the mid-section.  Yay for small steps!

Thursday, July 10, 2014

Day 11

Half my water.  No sweets.  Kept active, but didn't really "exercise".  (I think staying active counts!)  I'm tired, so I am off to bed...

Wednesday, July 9, 2014

Day 10

Half again.  Bleh.

MUST.  GET.  BACK.  ON.  TRACK.

I saw my reflection in a glass door this afternoon, and maybe it was the bendy-ness of the glass, but I looked awful.  Huge.  More than I remember last time I looked in a mirror ... this morning.  Gotta get back in shape!  This is not me!  I'm that girl who always stayed thin when I was growing up, and even well into my adult-hood.  Something happened when I turned 30, and I need to get back to that version of me.   I think I'll start that exercise routine tomorrow.

Tuesday, July 8, 2014

Day 9

Well, I got in about half my water today.  Which, really, is excellent by anyone's standards.  But tomorrow I will shoot for the full amount again.
Still going strong with no sweets!  Yay!!!  I've made myself some sugar free chocolates, which help with the cravings.  They're quite tasty!  Here's the recipe:

1/4 C cocoa
1/4 C coconut oil
3 T honey

Stir coconut oil and honey together, then add cocoa.  Stir until smooth.  Pour into candy molds or flat container.  Freeze.  Enjoy!

Over all, I am feeling better, with more consistent energy.  I don't think I've lost any weight yet, but if I have it's been small.  I do feel better in my clothes though.  Maybe that's just a mental thing since I know I'm making better choices for my health.  Either way, I'm happy with the progress.

That's it for tonight.  Later!

Monday, July 7, 2014

Day 8

It's a good day!  Got all my water, and no sweets!  Woohoo!  I'm feeling good, going potty a lot, staying regular (haha),

Day 7

Not such a good day with the water ... Drank less than half again.  No sweets though (even when I was offered a roasted marshmallow!), and I got a little exercise, playing kickball with Lee!

Saturday, July 5, 2014

Day 6

Well, it wasn't my best day, but it wasn't my worst either.  I got somewhere around 3/4 of my water in.  I am still going strong with no sugar though!  Maybe in the next week or two I will add exercise to my goal.  Let's get one thing going at a time here.  :)

Friday, July 4, 2014

Day 5

Got all my water in today!  Woohoo!  And it wasn't easy, because we were out most of the day too!  I did really good at staying away from sweets as well.  I only had one Reeses PB Cup, and that was only because Karl gave it to me for my birthday (belated).  He actually gave me a 4-pack, but I let him eat 2, and I gave 1 to Charlie.  So I only ate 1!  It feels good to be laying off the sweets.  I feel really determined to stick with it.  I really like drinking so much water too.  It's sort of cleansing.
As far as exercise goes, I'm not really getting anything in, other than my daily activities, which, lately, have been busy.  Going lots of places, and when we are home I am cleaning a lot.  Win win!  :)

P.S.  Happy Independence Day!

Thursday, July 3, 2014

Day 4

I am sad to say that I didn't even drink half my water today.  And I don't even have a good reason.  :(  On a positive note, I stayed away from sweets!  Happy birthday to me!  :)

Wednesday, July 2, 2014

Day 3

We were out ALL day today, so it was difficult to stay on task with my water.  I drank about 3/4 of what I should have.  Shoot!  It's still pretty good, but here's to hoping tomorrow is better!
On a side note, tomorrow is my birthday, and I am contemplating making another goal.  I am thinking I will try to cut sweets from my diet ... for a whole year.  That's a long time!  I've done this before, and made it 3 months, and then one day I had a handful of trail mix that had M&Ms in it, and it all went down hill after that.  But three months!  That is awesome!  Imagine how much better off I'd be if I could do a whole year!  I know my body could certainly use the change.  I need to lose some weight, and I'm not getting any younger.  Alright, I'll do it.  I'd better be able to drop this little belly I have left over from having Charlie, as well as these flabby arms.  :)

Tuesday, July 1, 2014

Day 2

The good news is that I drank all my water!  The bad news is that my sweets cravings have not gone away.  (I think I ate 10 pounds of toostie rolls today.)
Now please excuse me while I use the bathroom for the 38th time today...

Monday, June 30, 2014

Day 1

I did it!  I drank all that water!  I had to use the restroom a lot, (and by the way, drinking a lot of water keeps you regular!  Ha!) but it wasn't as difficult as I thought.  I found that the first half of the water went quickly.  I drank it within 3 or 4 hours.  But  the second half dragged out the rest of the day.  Not sure why that is.  I'll need to work on that.
I found that I wasn't very hungry, especially during the first half.  I had a banana to start the day, and then didn't feel like eating anything until noon or so.  (I usually start to feel "munchy" by 10/11.)
I am adding a little bit of stevia to my water to make it more palatable, so that helps me get it down.  Otherwise I gag on plain water, and this whole experiment would just be impossible.
Diet-wise, I did pretty good.  I ate a little healthier than usual.  I even closed the pantry door when I saw chocolate in there!  I never do that!  I also went walking with the kids.  Nothing super strenuous, but it was enough I think.
I didn't weigh myself, so I'll need to do that tomorrow for sure so that I keep an accurate record of my progress.
Well, that's probably it for today!  Woohoo, yay me!  :)

Sunday, June 29, 2014

Welcome!

Welcome to my Water Blog!  Starting Monday, June 30, 2014, I will be blogging about my experience of drinking my weight in ounces of water every single day for a year.  While I will try to work on other areas of my health at the same time - getting enough sleep, exercising, eating right, etc. - my primary focus will be on drinking my goal amount of water daily.  To be honest, I have the attention span of a 5 year old, and so I think I can only handle one goal at a time.
The health benefits I am hoping and expecting to get from this are ... 1. weight loss  2. more energy  3. decreased sweets cravings.  There may be more benefits, and I will certainly welcome them, but this is where I am starting.
My plan is to track my over-all health from day to day.  How I am feeling, if my weight is changing, and anything else that comes up.  I will also try to include a simple log of my activity level and diet for the day, as those will certainly have an impact on my health as well.
Thanks for following!  Here's to good health!
